Visa-Exempt Entry

Up to 90 Days Albania, Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Eswatini*, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Holy See, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan*, Kosovo, Republic of Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Marshall Island*, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia*(effective untill March 31, 2030), Norway, Palau, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tuvalu*, United Kingdom, and United States of America*.
Up to 30 Days Belize*, Malaysia, Nauru, Saint Kitts and Nevis*, Saint Lucia*, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Singapore.
Up to 14 Days Thailand, Brunei, Philippines
Requirements
  1. A passport with remaining validity of at least six months as of the date of entry
    • Visa-exempt entry only applies to foreign visitors holding formal passports (i.e., ordinary, official/service and diplomatic passports). Those holding emergency, temporary, or other informal passports or travel documents are ineligible, with the exception of those holding a Brunei Certificate of Identity.
    • Holders of Belize, Eswatini, Nauru, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Tuvalu passports with place of birth recorded on the passport data page as Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, the People's Republic of China, Syria, and Yemen are ineligible for the visa exemption. Holders of Honduran passports with place of birth recorded on the passport data page as the People's Republic of China are also ineligible for the visa exemption.
    • A national of the Republic of the Marshall Islands shall mean any person who holds the nationality of the Republic of the Marshall Islands and is confined to the following categories:(1) a person who acquired the citizenship of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands at birth before the effective date of the Constitution of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and has become and remains a citizen of the Republic of the Marshall Islands; or (2) a person who acquired the citizenship of the Republic of the Marshall Islands at birth, on or after the effective date of the Constitution of the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
    • USA nationals who possess a passport, including an emergency passports, valid for the intended period of stay are eligible for visa-exempt entry.
    • Japan nationals who possess a passport valid for the intended period of stay are eligible for visa-exempt entry.
    • Holders of emergency or temporary passport, except those from the United States of America, should apply for a visa at an ROC overseas mission, or a landing visa after arriving in the ROC.
  2. A confirmed return air/sea ticket or air/sea ticket and a visa for the next destination, and a confirmed seat reservation for departure flight.
  3. Not determined by immigration officers at ports of entry in the ROC to be otherwise ineligible.
  4. Holders of Brunei, Philippines and Thailand passports must have proof of accommodation (hotel) booking, host/sponsor's contact information and sufficient travel funds.
  5. Brunei, Philippines and Thailand vessel/aircraft crew members or service personnel intending to board to report for duty are ineligible for the visa-exempt entry.
Remarks
  1. Those who have entered Taiwan visa-free for purposes that do not require a permit—such as engaging in tourism, visiting friends or relatives, attending social events, conducting business, attending exhibitions, and engaging in fact-finding missions or international exchanges—who then intend to engage in activities that, according to the laws and regulations of relevant agencies, do require a permit must still obtain such a permit. Those who intend to enter Taiwan for purposes that require qualifications, such as religious work, must obtain a visa from an ROC overseas mission before entering Taiwan.
  2. According to Article 14 of the Regulations for Exit of Draftees, a draftee who has maintained his household registration in Taiwan must enter into and depart from Taiwan with his ROC passport; a person who is subject to conscription and enters into Taiwan with a foreign passport will be restricted from departing Taiwan.
  3. Within three days prior to arriving in Taiwan, please complete an online immigration arrival card (https://twac.immigration.gov.tw) on the website of the National Immigration Agency.

E-visa

Participants who aren't eligible for visa-empty entry MUST apply for E-visa in advance.

Up to 30 Days Bahrain, Burkina Faso, Colombia, Dominica, Ecuador, Kiribati, Kuwait, Mauritius, Montenegro, Oman, Panama, Peru, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Solomon Islands, Turkiye, United Arab Emirates, Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Requirements
  1. E-visa applicants must possess an ordinary, official, or diplomatic passport with validity of at least six months as of the date of intended entry into Taiwan.
  2. To obtain an E-visa, applicants must submit relevant personal information and pay the required fee by credit card (Visa or MasterCard) online. The application fee is NT$1,600 with bank handling fee of NT$46 paid by credit card, the total is NT$1,646. (Countries exempt from visa fees are: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia, Kiribati, Kosovo, Mauritius, Montenegro, Panama, Peru, Solomon Islands, and Turkey.)
  3. ROC overseas missions may, depending on the applicant’s nationality and purpose of visit, request through email that the applicant submit additional documents within a specific timeframe. If these documents are not submitted by the given deadline, the application may be denied.
  4. When an E-visa application has been approved, the applicant will receive a notice by email containing a webpage link to download and print the E-visa. The E-visa holder is required to present a paper copy of the E-visa at the immigration checkpoint for verification by the National Immigration Agency upon arrival in Taiwan.
Remarks The validity of an E-visa is three months starting from the issue date.

For Visitors Holding Hong Kong or Macau Passports

Hong Kong and Macau residents requiring an Entry and Exit Permit should follow these steps:

  1. Complete the application form online:

  2. Await approval of the Entry and Exit Permit.
  3. Submit the processing fee.
  4. Enter Taiwan with the color-printed Entry and Exit Permit document.
